‘The mind sees what it wants to see’ We all have heard this comment multiply times. But, is this really fact? Does our mind, not to be confused with the brain, have a mind of its own? If so, could this mean that some psychopaths, serial killers and even narcissists, are not able to ‘control’ the neurological information process occurring in their brain? Our brain has indeed many thoughts, memories, hidden desires and worlds what, ultimately, is the basics for us to make a final choice. But is it a good or a grim one?
Some criminals believe in demons, and some even believe in demons so much that they have blamed their behavior on demonic possession. Is a (serial) killer dealing with a severe mental illness and thus is not responsible for his or her actions? Or, is he/she acting out on instincts and desires with full consciousness...actions of that of a traumatized predator?
In the August edition we are scraping the surface of this complex maze and discuss some of these questions.
